Flexibility — We lead with grace and understand life’s level of uncertainty. We trust that space is a vital key for success. We hold boundaries that honor our energy, while staying in the pocket of openness.
Joy — We use joy as a compass. We follow our sparks of big joy, and invite in tiny joyful moments. Permission to change our minds, always. We mirror out the energy we wish to receive, and honor the hard season. We do not bypass or bury. We listen and learn.
Curiosity — We stay open. We understand everyone comes with a different background, learning style, and lens. We meet people with curiostiy and ask more questions than filling space with words. We create open space in conversation to explore. We stay committed to the work of diversity and impact.
I traveled to 33 countries before I turned 33 years old and all within 10 years.
When I set off on my first international trip at 23 years old, I felt bright eyed and ready for what the world would offer. What I didn’t expect to learn was the immense amount of privilege I have to live the way I do.
It took hard work to leave the country for the first time, and hard work to sustain a life of travel. But the convience I experience as a white American woman journeying freely through the world is not the experience of all.
I have been able to hand my passport to border officers without question.
I am able to be mildly irritated by the secondary screening that I go through.
I am able to be a fun loving tourist in a country that borders active war.
Being a traveler opened my eyes to the privilege I live and work through.
It is my walking prayer that everyone experiences the depths of their most joyful life, but it is my feet on the ground knowing that it is not as simple as those words for many.
And so I bring this lens to my work here in this corner of the internet.
I’ve always thrived to be inclusion, intention is not enough in this work.
Intention is what a broken system has allowed me to stay in with ease. This brought me to the work of diversity and inclusion with my coach Annie Gichuru.
In our first session I said, I want to do this work outloud. Share what I see, start conversations in my community even when uncomfortable, and keep my feet on the ground in this work.
My promise is to continue to live the work of inclusion out loud.
I believe one of the highest forms of leadership is a beginner’s mindset. I am here to learn and unlearn, to call myself to myself, and to welcome feedback. If there is a place in my business I can do better, my inbox is open.
In action…
